Dr. Arthur Matas is the director of the renal transplant service and a professor of surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is also a past president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.

Dr. Matas has published more than 600 book chapters, articles and peer-reviewed materials, and has served on the editorial boards of many journals and other publications. In 2007, he served as editor-in-chief of Transplantation Updates and he has also served as deputy editor of the American Journal of Transplantation.

Dr. Matas received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba College of Medicine. He completed his surgery internship and residency at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, where he subsequently finished his fellowship in transplantation. He served previously in academic roles at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
