Dr. Barbara Spivak has been a practicing internist for the past 40 years and has served as the President and Chairperson of the Mount Auburn Cambridge Independent Practice Association (MACIPA) for over 21 years. Dr. Spivak has been an active participant in the Massachusetts Health Quality Partnership (MHQP), representing MACIPA on the physician council, on the board and as vice chair. She has been Chairperson of the Committee on Quality of Medical Practice at the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) and serves on the MMS strategic planning and governance committees. Dr. Spivak has been a long-standing member of the AMA (American Medical Association) Integrated Physician Practice Council. She participates on several Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Technical Panels evaluating and developing outpatient quality metrics to be used for payment. She has been involved with both AMA and CMS sponsored committees looking at alternative payment models, trying to identify creative solutions for the current health care crisis. Dr. Spivak was honored by the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium (MHDC) with the “Dolores Mitchell Investing in Information Award” and by the Mount Auburn Hospital physicians for “Clinical Excellence.” Dr. Spivak is a strong advocate for population health management, quality improvement, care management, and using data to inform our strategies. MACIPA has become a prominent health care organization both locally and nationally, being recognized for its innovation and commitment to the “Triple Aim” under Dr. Spivak’s leadership.
