Deepa Rastogi, MBBS, MS
  • Director of Translational Research
  • Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine
  • Children's National Health System
  • Washington, DC
Dr. Rastogi is a pediatric pulmonologist with a research interest in childhood asthma. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Genomics and Precision Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and serves as the Director of Translational Research in the Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at the Children's National Medical Center. Dr. Rastogi’s clinical and research interests are focused on the investigation of mechanisms that underlie high disease burden of asthma among urban minority children. Given the high prevalence of obesity in children and its overlap with asthma, the Rastogi lab is investigating the immune mechanisms that underlie urban minority childhood asthma, with a current focus on obesity-related asthma. Having shown that systemic inflammation associated with obesity-related asthma in children is non-atopic, and is influenced by metabolic abnormalities, the Rastogi lab is investigating several different biological mechanisms, including the role of epigenetics in establishing the non-atopic immune patterns among obese children with asthma. Dr. Rastogi has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications and authored book chapters. She plays an active role in the Pediatric Programming Committee at the American Thoracic Society.
