Edgar Lerma, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. In addition, he is the Director for Research for the Advocate Christ Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Edgar Lerma earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santo Tomas. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Lerma completed a Fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and the Veterans Administration (VA) Lakeside Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Lerma is a Certified Clinical Specialist in Hypertension and a Diplomat in the Subspecialty of Nephrology with the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is the author of more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and 25 presentations, and has been appointed to several editorial boards and served as a peer reviewer for numerous journals. Dr. Lerma has been elected to the Fellowship of the American Society of Hypertension, the Fellowship of the American Heart Association: Council on Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease, Fellowship of the American College of Physicians, and the Fellowship of the American Society of Nephrology. In March 2006, his group Associates in Nephrology, won the Renal Physicians Association Exemplary Practice Award.
