Dr. Hosam K. Kamel currently serves as the director of geriatrics and extended care, at St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas and is a medical director of seven skilled nursing facilities in the state of Arkansas. Dr. Kamel is an associate clinical professor of geriatrics at the department of geriatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Kamel is the vice chair of the clinical practice committee of the American Medical Directors Association.
Dr. Kamel is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Nutrition, the American Geriatric Society, and the Gerontological Society of America. He was elected a full member of the SIGMA XI honor scientific research society. Dr. Kamel is listed in Marquis Who's Who in America 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions.
Dr. Kamel served as the editor-in-chief of Internet Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology and served/currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association, the Annals of Long Term Care, the Open Geriatric Medicine Journal, Journal of Gerontology Medical Sciences, the Internet Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology and the Open Journal of Andrology. Dr. Kamel is a peer reviewer for 28 medical journals including JAMA, American Journal of Medicine (AJM), British Medical Journal (BMJ), Journal of the American Geriatric Society (JAGS), Journal of Gerontology, Journal of Nutrition Health and Aging, Drugs, Bone, Women's Health, Clinical Endocrinology, Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, Maturitas, Expert Review of Pharmacoeconomics & Outcomes Research, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN), Clinical Interventions in Aging, and American Family Physician, JAMDA and Annals of Long Term Care. Dr. Kamel has co-authored about 200 scientific publications (books, book chapters, journal article and abstracts) and 13 AMDA clinical practice guidelines for best practices in long term care including the recently released Congestive Heart Failure Clinical Practice Guidelines.
