James Crowe, MD

    Dr. James Crowe, Jr., is the Ingram Professor of Cancer Research, professor of pediatrics, and microbiology and immunology, and director of the Vanderbilt Program for Vaccine Sciences at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennesee.

    A fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America, Dr. Crowe currently serves as an editor for the journal Nanomedicine and as an editorial board member for the Journal of Virology, in addition to his duties as an ad hoc reviewer for a wide selection of other peer-reviewed journals. He has published widely, with more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and invited reviews to his credit.

    Dr. Crowe has received numerous research and clinical distinctions at Vanderbilt, most notably the Chancellor's Research Award in 2007. He has also been recognized with national honors, including the E. Mead Johnson Award for Excellence in Pediatric Research by the Society of Pediatric Research in 2006, and the Outstanding Investigator Award from the American Federation for Medical Research in 2007.

    He earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at the North Carolina Memorial Hospitals, in association with the UNC School of Medicine. He also served as a medical staff fellow, and subsequently as a senior research investigator, in the respiratory viruses section of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Crowe finished his clinical fellowship in infectious diseases within the department of pediatrics at Vanderbilt.
