James Palmer, MD

    Dr. James N. Palmer teaches endoscopic sinus surgery, paranasal sinus anatomy and treatment modalities for chronic sinusitis, at Penn Medicine, where he is an associate professor and director of the division of rhinology in the department of otorhinolaryngology - head and neck surgery.

    Dr. Palmer has had extensive sub-specialty training in rhinology and sinus surgery including a fellowship with Dr. Frederick Kuhn at the Georgia Nasal and Sinus Institute. He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University and performed his residency training at Northwestern University. Most recently, Dr. Palmer has served as president of the International Symposium on Infection and Allergy of the Nose (ISIAN), the world's largest gathering of medical professionals dedicated to treatment of diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses. 

    Dr. Palmer has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and has given lectures on the anatomy of the sinuses, endoscopic sinus surgery, treatment of diseases of the paranasal sinuses and sinus tumor treatment on six continents. He has particular clinical interests in minimally invasive treatment of sinus tumors, frontal sinusitis, and endoscopic treatment of CSF leaks and encephaloceles. His major basic science interests include work with bacterial biofilms and ciliary movement in the sinuses.
