Dr. Jose Biller is professor of neurology and neurological surgery at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and chair of neurology at Loyola University Health System, based in Maywood, Ill.

Dr. Biller's professional affiliations include serving as director of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology from 1994 to 2001. In addition, he served as an editor for the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases and Seminars in Cerebrovascular Disease and Stroke, and as an editorial board member and reviewer for an array of other journals and publications. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, American College of Angiology, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, and the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association (AHA). Key areas of research interest focus on cerebrovascular disease, clinical trials in cerebrovascular disease, and stroke in young adults. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, more than 100 book chapters and many more medical resources. He also chairs the United Council of Neurological Subspecialties' Certification Council and the Minority Affairs Committee for the AHA's Stroke Council.

Dr. Biller earned his medical degree from the School of Medicine at the University of Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay, where he also completed his internship in internal medicine at the Maciel Hospital and Public Welfare Health Ministry. He then completed a second internship in internal medicine at Columbus Hospital in Chicago, and moved on to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and back to Loyola University and Hines VA Hospital in Hines, Ill., to complete his residency in neurology. Subsequently, he finished his cerebrovascular research fellowship at Wake Forest University's Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
