Larry Young, PhD
Larry Young, PhD

Dr. Larry J. Young is the division chief at Emory University's Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and the William P. Timmie Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the School of Medicine.

Dr. Young's research laboratory is using interdisciplinary approaches to understand how specific genes regulate the expression of innate behaviors, with a continuing focus on social attachment and social behavior in general. Techniques used in the lab include molecular genetics, gene expression analysis, viral vector mediated gene transfer, transgenic mouse technology, and behavioral pharmacology. The goal of the research is to gain a better understanding of the relationship between genes, the brain and behavior, and by gaining an understanding of the mechanisms underlying social attachment, to gain insight in human disorders characterized with social impairments, such as autism.
