Dr. Lawrence F. Eichenfield is Chief of Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology at Rady Children’s Hospital– San Diego, Vice Chair of the Department of Dermatology, and Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, was a pediatric resident and Chief Resident at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and completed his dermatology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Eichenfield directs the Pediatric Dermatology Division at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego, and co-directs the Multidisciplinary Atopic Dermatitis Program (MADP), the Vascular Lesion Center and the Scar Treatment and Rehabilitation (STAR) Program. Dr. Eichenfield’s clinical interests include atopic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, pediatric infections including molluscum and warts, vascular lesions and hemangiomas, neonatal dermatology, laser surgery, nevi, rare skin disorders and skin signs of systemic disease. He has authored more than 400 journal articles, chapters, abstracts, and books, and has served as the senior editor of Neonatal and Infant Dermatology, published by Elsevier, as well as The Eczemas, published by Summit Communications. He served as Editor-in-Chief of Pediatric Dermatology for 12 years and serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals and periodicals. In addition, Dr. Eichenfield has been honored as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society during medical school, is a recipient of the Benjamin Ritter Award at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and a recipient of excellence in teaching awards from UCSD Pediatrics, UCSD Dermatology, and Rady Children’s Hospital–San Diego. He has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America” since 1994. Dr. Eichenfield is past president of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology and past Board member of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as Chair for the 69th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Eichenfield is a founder and served as Co-Chair of the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA) and a founding board member and past President of the American Acne and Rosacea Society. Dr. Eichenfield has served in multiple leadership positions including Co-Chair of the American Academy of Dermatology Guidelines for Atopic Dermatitis Taskforce, Chair of the American Academy of Dermatology Consensus Conference on Atopic Dermatitis, Co-Chair of the PeDRA Atopic Dermatitis Research Group, and member of the Expert Panel Member of the NIAID Guidelines for Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy, Scientific Advisory Board of the National Eczema Association, and Director of the Rady/UCSD Eczema and Inflammatory Skin Disease Center. He served as the national principal investigator for the Verrica CAMP clinical trials. His research activities include outcomes work in inflammatory skin diseases, including work with the Harmonizing Outcomes of Eczema (HOME) group, the Treating Atopic Dermatitis (TREAT) Registry Taskforce and leadership roles in evolving guidelines and consensus statements for multiple disease states (including acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and serving as Co-Chair of the American Acne Rosacea Society/AAP Guidelines for Pediatric Acne, and the PeDRA Consensus Recommendations on Comorbidity Screening for Pediatric Psoriasis.
