Dr. Makoto Iwahara is gastroenterologist in private practice and at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, and president of the Japanese Medical Society of America. He was born in Okayama City, Okayama, Japan in 1954, and immigrated to New York with his family as a child. He received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Brown University and his MD from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. He completed his internship and residency at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, New York, and his fellowship at Genesee Hospital, University of Rochester.
