Martha Twaddle, MD

    Dr. Martha Twaddle is chief medical officer of Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter in suburban Illinois. She is also associate program director of the Midwest Hospice and Palliative Medicine Integrated Fellowship, a collaborative effort of Rush University Medical Center; John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County; and Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter. She is also associate program director of hospice and palliative medicine at Rush University Medical Center and associate professor of medicine at Rush Medical College. She is a lecturer at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

    Dr. Twaddle earned her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed a residency in internal medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine at Evanston Hospital, where she was also chief resident.

    She is a fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) and of the American College of Physicians. She is also a member of the clinical advisory board of the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook, Illinois, and an editorial board member of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management. Dr. Twaddle is on the board of directors of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). She is also on the advisory board and previously served on the steering committee for the National Consensus Project for Palliative Care, which published “Clinical Practice Guidelines for Quality Palliative Care” in 2004. She also serves on the AAHPM Medical Directors Course Curriculum as well as the Education and Training Strategic Coordinating committees. 

    In 2005, Dr. Twaddle was the inaugural recipient of the AAHPM Josefina B. Magno Distinguished Hospice Physician Award, and received the Stephen A. Weisman Humanitarian Award for Cancer Care from the Cancer Wellness Center in 2001.
