Martin Samuels, MD

    Dr. Martin A. Samuels is the founding chair, Department of Neurology, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Samuels completed his internship, residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital and neurology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was chief of the neurology service at Brockton-West Roxbury VA Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts, for 11 years before assuming the position in 1988 of chief of neurology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and director of the Harvard Longwood Neurology Program.

    Dr. Samuels is also a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, a master of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Samuels has won numerous honors, including the first Harvard Medical School Faculty Prize for Excellence in Teaching and, from the American Academy of Neurology, both the 2006 A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurological Education and the 2007 H. Houston Merritt Award for Clinically Relevant Research.
