Matthew Ito, PharmD, FNLA

    Matthew Ito, PharmD, FNLA, is Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of the Cardiovascular Pharmacodynamics Laboratory at Oregon State University/Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Ito received his doctorate in Pharmacy in 1986 at the University of Southern California, where he also completed a post-doctoral residency and fellowship.

    Dr. Ito's primary research interest is in familial hypercholesterolemia and other lipid disorders. Dr. Ito's current research focus is on the effects of statins on glucose transporters with the use of cell culture models.

    Dr. Ito has been the recipient of numerous study grants, has published over 100 research papers, review articles, book chapters, and abstracts in both the pharmacy and medical literature and has given over 400 presentations to professional audiences at the local, state, and national levels. He was a member of the National Lipid Association Expert Panel on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Familial Hypercholesterolemia and the Recommendations for Patient-Centered Management of Dyslipidemia, and is a member of the writing group for the scientific statement on Familial Hypercholesterolemia by the American Heart Association's Atherosclerosis, Hypertension, and Obesity in the Young (AHOY) Committee of the Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young.

    Dr. Ito was the Director of a pharmacist-run cholesterol clinic at the VA Medical Center in San Diego for 13 years prior to moving to Portland.

    He is active in National pharmacy and medical organizations. He is a member and fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the National Lipid Association, on the Board of Directors and President for the National Lipid Association, and on the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Lipidology and the Annals of Pharmacotherapy.
