Michael H. Davidson, MD

    Dr. Michael H. Davidson is clinical professor at the University of Chicago, where he is also director of preventive cardiology and associate vice chairman for continuing medical education. In addition, Dr. Davidson serves as consulting CMO for Omthera Pharmaceuticals.

    Dr. Davidson earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus. He fulfilled his residency in internal medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, where he later completed a fellowship in cardiology.

    An active researcher, Dr. Davidson's clinical research background encompasses both pharmaceutical and nutritional clinical trials. His extensive research on statins, novel lipid-lowering drugs, and nonpharmacologic risk factor reduction has established him as a key opinion leader in this area. A prolific author and lecturer on lipid disorders, nutrition, and atherosclerosis, Dr. Davidson has coordinated more than 1,000 clinical trials in areas of preventive cardiology and published more than 250 articles for leading medical journals and has written three books on lipidology.

    Dr. Davidson is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and clinical lipidology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Chest Physicians. In addition, he is the 2010-2011 president of the National Lipid Association. He was named in The Best Doctors in America, 2003-2010, and named Father of the Year by the American Diabetes Association in 2010.
