Philip Smith, MD

    Dr. Philip Smith is professor and chair of infectious diseases in the department of internal medicine at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. Dr. Smith also is the medical director of the Biocontainment Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), the director of the Center for Biosecurity, Biopreparedness and Emerging Infectious Disease within the UNMC College of Public Health, where he concurrently serves as a professor of public health. In addition, Dr. Smith is the co-director of the Nebraska Center for Biopreparedness Education, and a member of the Nebraska Pandemic Influenza Task Force.

    Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine, and completed his internship in straight medicine, his residency in internal medicine, and his fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
