Rebecca S. Reeves, DrPH, RD, FADA

    Rebecca S. Reeves, DrPH, RD, FADA completed her MPH. and DrPH. degrees from the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston, Texas and her undergraduate degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. For the past 35 years she has conducted clinical trials in nutrition and obesity at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Formerly she served as the Managing Director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center and as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Baylor. She has focused on heart disease and the behavioral treatment of obesity which has included weight management programs for African American and Mexican American women. Dr. Reeves has also conducted studies in areas of binge eating and alternative treatments for obesity including pharmacotherapy, dietary supplements and food substances. She was the project director for the landmark NIH Look AHEAD study at Baylor College of Medicine since its funding in 1999. This 13 year study which includes an intensive lifestyle component is examining the role of sustained weight loss in the reduction of cardiovascular events in overweight persons with Type II diabetes.

    Currently, she is consulting on various nutrition related projects and conducting media interviews on television and radio. Recently she was asked to join the faculty of The University of Texas School of Public Health as an adjunct Assistant Professor. Dr. Reeves has 50 peer-reviewed publications and has addressed many audiences on the topic of weight management.

    In 1994, Dr. Reeves was selected as the Distinguished Dietitian of the Texas Dietetic Association and in March 2000 her state dietetic association honored her with title of Distinguished Scientist. Dr. Reeves was named a Fellow of the American Dietetic Association in 1995. Dr. Reeves served as the Speaker of the House of Delegates of the American Dietetic Association from 1999-2000.

    In October 2001, the American Dietetic Association selected Dr. Reeves to receive the Medallion Award, a prestigious award bestowed on members for meritous service to the profession and significant contributions to their professions. Dr. Reeves was elected to the office of President-elect of the American Dietetic Association in 2004 and served as the President of the American Dietetic Association from 2005-2006.
