Samuel Gidding, MD

    Samuel Gidding, MD has practiced pediatric and preventive cardiology at the Nemours Cardiac Center at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, since 2000. He became cardiology division head in January of 2008. His clinical interests include general pediatric cardiology, preventive cardiology, exercise, heart failure, fetal diagnosis, and Kawasaki Disease and current research includes local studies on congenital heart disease, on the cardiovascular morbidity of obesity (exercise studies, lipid studies, hypertension, insulin resistance), early imaging of atherosclerosis, and continued participation in 3 multicenter studies, PDAY, TODAY, and CARDIA.

    Dr. Gidding leads or is a co-investigator in funded studies on blood pressure in African American teenagers, fish oil for treatment of triglycerides in adolescents, and statins for treating hypercholesterolemia in diabetics, and he works actively with NHPS on public health issues in the state of Delaware and is a founding member of the Northeast pediatric lipid group, a regional consortium dedicated to prevention of adult onset lipid related diseases beginning in youth. In addition, Dr. Giddne has also participated or is currently participating as an expert in the development of consensus guidelines and scientific statements for NIH (hypertension, comprehensive CVD risk guidelines for children), CDC (tobacco), the American Heart Association (obesity, nutrition, tobacco), and the American Diabetic Association (lipids). 

    He has been a visiting professor at the Cleveland Clinic, University of Miami, University of Pittsburg, University of West Virginia, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Texas A&M University, Brown University, and the University of Michigan.
