Dr. Shelly Batra is a practicing gynecologist in New Delhi, India, and president of Operation Asha, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting tuberculosis in the poorest urban slums in India.

Dr. Batra earned her medical degree from King George's Medical College in Lucknow, India, in 1986. She completed her training in New Delhi at Safdarjung Hospital and All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr. Batra is a senior specialist in obstetrics and gynecology and advanced laparoscopy at Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre in New Delhi, where she has also been teaching since 1999.

Dr. Batra has written hundreds of articles on health for newspapers, including Times of India, The Hindustan Times, and The Deccan, and is the author of the best-selling books Intimate Self and 20 Minutes to Total Fitness, both published by Penguin Books India.
