Dr. Susan Matthews received her PhD in nursing at the University of Kentucky in 2009. Her area of expertise is diabetes management and patient-provider communication. She has been a frequent presenter on the topic of diabetes, attitudes toward diabetes, self efficacy, patient satisfaction and empowerment of the patient as it relates to glycemic control, and the importance of the patient provider relationship.
Dr. Matthews is a national and international speaker on the topic of independent practice providing information beginning an independent practice and practiceownership as well as diabetes management, the role of the patient-provider relationship, satisfaction with treatment and attitudes toward diabetes.
She is the Kentucky state representative to the AANP. In addition, she is a board member of the Advanced Practice Nurses Multi-State Reimbursement Alliance, whose goal is to increase credentialing and reimbursement for NPs. At the state level, she is an active member of the legislative task force and reimbursement committee for the Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Midwives.
She has established a thriving practice in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. She has been in business since 2002, purchasing her practice from a physician who decided to close a declining practice. Dr. Matthews rebuilt the practice and provides primary care services to a variety of patients.
