Ted L. Anderson, MD, PhD, FACOG, FACS
  • Director, Division of Gynecology
  • Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Dr. Anderson earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi with a focus in marine biology, cell biology and genetics. He then transitioned to Vanderbilt University, where he earned a PhD in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. His thesis research examined the hormonal control of molecular changes in the uterine lining related to embryo-uterine recognition, adhesion, and implantation. Following a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology at Baylor College of Medicine, he completed a research fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia, where he remained as junior faculty. As his research activities took a decidedly more clinical focus, he returned to Vanderbilt for his medical training, graduating in 1993.

Dr. Anderson completed an internship in anatomic pathology and subsequently completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as a fellowship in reproductive pelvic surgery. He spent the early part of his clinical career at the (HCA) Centennial Women’s Hospital, where he served as chair of the ObGyn department before returning to Vanderbilt in 2005 and ascending to his current position.

Dr. Anderson has remained a productive clinician and researcher. He has published over 65 manuscripts, monographs, and book chapters. For several years, he has been listed as one of the “Best Doctors in America” and “America’s Top Obstetricians & Gynecologists” and “Best Doctors in Nashville.”

Generously donating his time to professional and community activities, Dr. Anderson has served on the Board of Directors for the Mary Parrish Center for Victims of Domestic Violence and The Step Ahead Foundation, which provides LARC birth control for patients at no cost. He has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and its Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Board. He has been very active in ACOG since his residency and currently serves on the ACOG Executive Board.

Dr. Anderson’s current clinical and research interests include minimally invasive surgical options, alternatives to hysterectomy, and the impact of technology on medicine and society.
