Dr. William "Bill" Harris holds a PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota. His research has focused on human lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, especially as they are affected by omega-3 fatty acids. He has been the principal investigator on 5 omega-3 related NIH grants, and since 2004 has been evaluating the RBC "omega-3 index" as a new risk factor for cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric diseases. In 2009 he founded a company (OmegaQuant, LLC, Sioux Falls, SD) to offer the test to researchers, and in 2011 the omega-3 index test was acquired by Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Inc. (Richmond, VA) where it is now available clinically. Dr. Harris is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Sanford School of Medicine, University of South Dakota; the President of OmegaQuant; and a Sr. Scientist at Health Diagnostic Lab. He lives in Sioux Falls, SD.
