Dr. William Smucker graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1978, and completed his family practice residency at Summa Health System in 1981.
Since 1982, he has served as medical director and primary care physician for 145 patients at the Altenheim Nursing Home in Strongsville, Ohio.
In 1987 he joined the faculty of the family medicine residency at Summa Health system. He holds the Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatrics, is a certified medical director, and professor of family medicine at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
He is a member of the American Medical Directors Association's (AMDA) board of directors, clinical practice committee, the palliative care workgroup, and the Multidisciplinary Medication Management (M3). He has participated in development of the palliative care curriculum for long term care. He was the principle author of AMDA's Anticoagulation Toolkit, Palliative Care Toolkit and Stroke Clinical Practice Guideline.
