Evolving Roles for Physician Assistants: AAPA's Optimal Team Practice Guidelines

Gail Curtis, President and Chair of the AAPA Board of Directors, discusses new guidelines outlined for the physician assistant field.
  • Overview

In May 2017, the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) House of Delegates approved a new policy, referred to as the Optimal Team Practice Guidelines. These guidelines were intended to expand access to care and better fit the PA profession to the current healthcare marketplace. What does this policy mean for the physician assistant field in terms of patient care, how will they collaborate with physicians, and what new career opportunities will emerge moving forward?

Host Tim Rush talks with Gail Curtis, President and Chair of the AAPA Board of Directors, about ways in which these PA practice guidelines will change the physician assistant profession.
