Grace Kuo, PharmD, MPH
Grace Kuo, PharmD, MPH

    Dr. Grace M. Kuo is an associate professor of clinical pharmacy and associate adjunct professor of family and preventive medicine, and the principal investigator and program director of the Pharmacogenomics Education Program at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is the director of San Diego Pharmacist Resource and Research Network, the director of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy's Practice Based Research Network, and serves on the executive committee of the National Interdisciplinary Primary Care Practice-Based Research Network.

    Dr. Kuo has over 10 years of clinical experience working at different pharmacies: hospital, homecare, retail, consulting, and direct patient care in clinics. She is currently a career development award recipient, funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and a pharmacist health services researcher, with an ongoing project titled "Safe Use of Medications in Primary Care Practices." As a contributing author, Dr. Kuo collaborated with the Institute of Medicine Committee and worked on the commission report "Preventing Medication Errors." She has also received funding from the National Institute of Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health, to assess the effect of patient's health literacy on medication safety and from AHRQ, to assess the effect of electronic medical records on medication safety.

    At UCSD, Dr. Kuo is responsible for the overall management of the pharmacogenomics education program and will oversee the development, dissemination, and evaluation of the education program. She will oversee the management of staff and for the daily operational responsibilities related to the program.

    Before pursuing a career in clinical pharmacy, Dr. Kuo received her undergraduate degree in psychobiology at the University of California, Los Angeles. After receiving her pharmacy degrees from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Oregon Health Sciences University, she completed postdoctoral training at the NIH W. G. Magnuson Clinical Center in Maryland. She earned her master of public health degree in health promotion and health education from the University of Texas-Houston School of Public Health.
