Dr. Ira Byock is a palliative care physician and long-time public advocate for improving care through the end of life. He is director of palliative medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and professor of anesthesiology and community and family medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. He is co-founder and principal investigator of Life's End Institute, a community-based research and quality improvement organization focused on end-of-life experience and care, and directs the Reclaiming the End of Life Initiative. He is the author of Dying Well and The Four Things That Matter Most, both published by Free Press, 2004.
