Jordan Metzl, MD

    Dr. Jordan D. Metzl is a nationally renowned sports medicine physician at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. One of only ten sports medicine physicians named by his peers to New York Magazine's Top Doctor's List, Dr. Metzl is recognized locally and nationally for excellence in patient care, research and teaching.

    Dr. Metzl is a co-founder of the Hospital for Special Surgery's Sports Medicine Institute for Young Athletes, which opened in 1999 as one of the first multidisciplinary centers for the treatment and prevention of adolescent sports injury.

    With a practice of more than 20,000 patients, Dr. Metzl and his staff specialize in the treatment of athletic patients of all ages, sports and competitive levels, combining excellence in care with 10 years of experience to return patients to their activity of choice swiftly and injury free. He also serves as team physician for several New York-area high schools, for many thousands of runners and triathletes, and is the sports medicine physician for the Radio City Rockettes.

    Dr. Metzl is the author of The Young Athlete: A Sports Doctor's Complete Guide for Parents (Little Brown, 2002) and Sports Medicine in the Pediatric Office (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2007). His most recent book has been awarded three national awards, including the Grand Prize in the Midwest Independent Book Awards.

    In addition to his work with ReachMD, Dr. Metzl hosts a program on ABC News titled Healthy Life and has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, The CBS Early Show, and CNN American Morning to discuss issues in the realm of sports medicine and fitness. He is also the medical columnist for Triathlete magazine and the "Fitness Coach Columnist" for Best Life Magazine. He has appeared in various other print media, including The New York Times, Time Magazine and Newsweek, discussing issues of health and fitness.

    Dr. Metzl's medical training includes sports medicine fellowships at Vanderbilt University and Harvard University. He speaks regularly to medical and lay audiences around the country about issues related to sports safety and participation. He has been a visiting professor at multiple academic institutions.

    A former college soccer player, a 25-time marathon runner and a six-time Ironman triathlete, Dr. Metzl has spearheaded a number of prevention programs, including the ACL prevention program at Manhattan Soccer Club and running injury prevention programs with Team in Training marathon programs. He is the medical director of Blue Streak at Chelsea Piers, a sports performance and prevention program in New York City.
