Paul Katz, MD

    Dr. Paul Katz is professor of medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Katz is currently chief of the division of geriatrics/aging at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, medical director at Monroe Community Hospital, associate chief of staff for research at the Canandaigua VA, and director of the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center, sponsored by the Bureau of Health Professions.   

    Dr. Katz received his BS and MD degrees from the University of Michigan and completed training in internal medicine at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After finishing two years in public health service working with older adults, Dr. Katz completed a fellowship in geriatrics at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1984 and went on to direct geriatric services at the Buffalo Veteran's Administration Medical Center.

    Dr. Katz holds leadership positions in the American Geriatrics Society and is vice president of the American Medical Directors Association. He maintains active research interests in geriatric education as well as the organizational correlates of quality care in long term care settings. Dr. Katz is senior editor for the Springer Series Advances in Long Term Care as well as co-editor of the text Practice of Geriatrics and Psychiatry in the Nursing Home.
