Dr. Stephen Colagiuri is professor of metabolic health at the Institute of Obesity, Nutrition and Exercise at the University of Sydney in Australia. He is currently chair of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Task Force on Clinical Guidelines.

Dr. Colagiuri's research has mainly focused on: evidence-based guideline development and implementations; screening for type 2 diabetes; economic aspects of diabetes prevention and care; diabetes care delivery in developing countries; vascular risk assessment in people with diabetes; autoimmune aspects of diabetes; and diabetes in Aboriginal Australians.

Dr. Colagiuri is a member of the Australian Government Diabetes Expert Advisory Committee and chair of the New South Wales (NSW) Health Diabetes Advisory Group. Dr. Colagiuri has been invited to take part in many Congress Organizing Committees, such as those of the 13th IDF Congress (1988) and the 4th World Congress on Prevention of Diabetes and its Complications (2005). He was chairman of the IDF Western Pacific Regional Meeting (1999), chairman of the Western Pacific Region Diabetes Workshop (2001), and co-chair of the IDF Guidelines Meeting (2005).

He has been invited as a speaker by various international organizations and by World Health Organization consultancies and advisory groups, and has taken part in several international studies. Dr. Colagiuri has published over 100 scientific papers on diabetes - many concerned with the importance of carbohydrates in the diet of people with diabetes - and contributed to other major publications and books on the disease.
